Student Experience

Did you know that the fastest way to improve your language skills is to live in a country where the language is spoken every day? On my language trip to Scarborough, I learned this firsthand. The language trip from Thompson English Experience is the perfect mix between having fun and learning something. In the mornings, you got lessons which are really fun, and in the afternoon and evenings, you got great trips or activities. The lessons at Scarborough are fun because it’s not only grammar like in Germany. In the lessons, you’ll learn to speak fluently and confidently. Moreover, you speak about interesting themes like movies, music, the life in England, etc. Then in the afternoons, you can do great activities like power boating, paintballing, surfing, escape rooms, golf, and my favourite, chocolate making. I really enjoyed the evening activities. My favourite was the water park because it was really fun. It was such a nice time here in Scarborough. Scarborough is a nice town with many things to do. I liked all the cute little shops and the brick houses. But the best thing is the beach. It doesn’t matter if North or South Bay, but the best thing is to sit on a bench while eating fish and chips and listen to the sea.

I like England because the people are so friendly. My host family was nice and friendly. They got three dogs named Star, Willow and Gipsy. Gipsy is a puppy and she is so cute. I was a little bit nervous about the food in England because everyone says that the food in England is awful. But it isn’t. I loved the chicken burgers and the Caesar salad that my host mother made. The important thing is, if you don’t like something, you have to say it because your host family will search for a solution. One of the greatest things while the trip was that I made new friends. It’s so cool to get to know other people. The most important thing I got out of my time in England was confident speaking English. I wasn’t afraid to make mistakes anymore, and I learned a lot of useful everyday expressions. If you get the chance to go on this language trip, take it. It’s not only a way to improve your English language skills, but also a chance to make new friends, have fun, and discover England.

I really liked that we could choose what activity we wanted to do and that after the evening activities taxis would bring us home.

The Leaders were friendly and you could always talk to them. Most of the time they even started the conversation.

I think every task the teacher gave us was sensible and it didn’t get boring with all those variations in the lessons where we were nearly speaking all the time.
